Check a Factur-X invoice
A Factur-X invoice can be technically valid and still wrong. CheckFacture checks both: the format (PDF/A-3, XML, profile, EN 16931 rules) and the invoice's content (VAT, SIRET, mentions, IBAN).
First check free, no account.
1. File structure
- Factur-X detected: the PDF embeds
factur-x.xml(orzugferd-invoice.xml) as an associated file. - PDF/A-3: the document declares PDF/A-3 conformance, required for Factur-X.
- Profile: MINIMUM, BASIC WL, BASIC, EN 16931 or EXTENDED. MINIMUM and BASIC WL aren't enough for the French reform: the result says so.
- XML only: a CII or UBL file is recognised and checked the same way.
2. EN 16931 rules
- Mandatory fields (BR-01 to BR-16): number, date, document type, currency, seller, buyer, addresses, lines, totals.
- Consistent totals (BR-CO): line sum, net total, VAT, gross total, amount due.
- VAT per category (BR-S…): base and VAT amount consistent for each rate.
- French rule: seller's SIREN in the XML.
3. PDF vs XML
In a Factur-X, the visible PDF and the XML must say the same thing. CheckFacture compares the number, date, totals, SIREN and IBAN in the PDF with those in the XML. A mismatch can come from badly configured software… or from a PDF edited afterwards to change the IBAN.
4. The invoice's content
Valid XML can still carry wrong VAT, a wrong SIRET or a fraudster's IBAN. CheckFacture applies every content check too: SIREN and VAT number, maths, mandatory mentions including the 2026 reform's, due date and late fees, duplicates and IBAN changes. See the full list of checks.
Issuing invoices? CheckFacture also creates Factur-X invoices at the EN 16931 profile with every mandatory French mention: each generated invoice passes these same checks.
FAQ
What is a Factur-X invoice?
A normally readable PDF/A-3 that embeds the invoice as XML (CII) for accounting software. It's one of the three formats of France's e-invoicing reform, with UBL and CII. See our Factur-X guide.
Why can an invoice that looks fine be rejected?
Because compliance is about the file: missing or incomplete XML, an insufficient profile, a PDF that isn't PDF/A-3, inconsistent XML totals, or a mismatch between PDF and XML.
Is the file uploaded anywhere?
No: the check runs in your browser. The file isn't sent to any server or stored.
